Fabulous... if I do say so myself!!

This past weekend I went to my parents' house because Mom and I were preparing to do our recent Easter tradition of making panoramic sugar eggs! We did this together for the first time last year and I just loved it! Mom and I really enjoy being creative and this was a creative outlet that we both enjoyed so much!! Last year we made tons of eggs, this year we decided to make the project just a little bit smaller and only tackled about 7 eggs; three for me, two for her, and two for Heather. Thankfully Heather was home from working the night shift at the NICU so she participated this year as well! I don't think that Heather has ever done this before so it was a great project for her after her tough night at work, it ended up being very therapeutic for her!

First Mom molded all the eggs, in two pieces, from sugar and egg whites. Then she hollowed out each half and allowed them to dry. Because these eggs need at least 24 hours to dry she got them all done on Thursday before I came down on Saturday. Next we decorate using different colors of royal icing. First you start with the green grass in the bottom. Then you add your little figurines, then glue the two halves together and allow to dry a bit. Then using colored icing, pipe a design along the seam and add flowers to the top!! We all enjoyed ourselves so much! These eggs are not edible... well, they could be, but they wouldn't taste very good. They last for years and years, when stored properly and make a great Easter decoration in our home every year! I think I've had my sugar egg that Mom made for me for at least 20 years, if not longer!! Next year I think I'm going to offer them for people to buy at about $15 each!! But for now, I really just enjoy this little project and the special time I get to spend with my Mom and my sister!!
